Here are some volunteer opportunities that our members have participated in. Generally, high schoolers have the most volunteer options but we also note those which are open to younger ages.
Ongoing
- City Impact, San Francisco
- Best for middle and high school students, although a couple of younger children, if supervised, OK.
- Serve meals to homeless, sort donations at thrift store.
- Curiodyssey, San Mateo
- Ages 16+ can assist at exhibits
- Familia Cristiana Verbo, Redwood City
- Older students may help with tutoring in afterschool
- Friends of Palo Alto Library, Palo Alto
- High schoolers can sort donations, greet guests, maintain a section for monthly book sales.
- Medical Equipment Loan Program (MELP), San Carlos
- High schoolers can clean donated equipment, e.g. wheelchairs, add items to inventory, greet guests.
- Street Life Ministries, Redwood City (also Menlo Park, Palo Alto)
- Children may worship, visit, serve food.
One-time/Specific Events
- Operation Beautiful Day - Peninsula Covenant Church, Redwood City
- Clean up and improve local school campuses
- Christmas Store - Peninsula Covenant Church, Redwood City
- Near Christmas, purchase/Wrap gifts for a store open to low income households
- Provide childcare while parents browse the store
- Operation Christmas Child - Peninsula Covenant Church, Redwood City (and other locations)
- Late October/Early November: Pack a shoebox/plastic container with presents for children of needy families, both within US and abroad
- At specific drop-off locations, sort the incoming boxes
